Objectives

  • Identify epidemiological factors related to trauma/emergency.
  • Describe the pre-hospital, medical and nursing management of specific emergency conditions/injuries of complications.
  • Analyze selected contemporary issues affecting trauma/emergency care systems.
  • Examine current research and trends of care for the emergency/trauma patient.

Target Audience

This program is directed toward physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, EMT/EMT=Ps, respiratory therapists, radiologic technologists and other allied health care professionals caring for emergency and critical care patients.

Accreditation

Physicians
The University of Kentucky College of Medicine is accredited by the accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.  The Univeristy of Kentucky College of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 12.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate witht he extent of their participation in the activity.  The University of Kentucky College of Medicine presents this activity for educational purposes only.  Participants are expected to utilize thir own expertise and judgement while engaged in the practice of medicine.  The content of the presentations is provided solely by presenters who have been selected for presentations because of recognized expertise in their field.

 

Nurses
For Nursing CEUs, Emergency Nurses Association has approved the following; Advanced Pedicatric Life Support course: 8.0; General Session Day One; 6.4; and General Session Day Two 5.6.  Attendance on both days for General Sessions will result in approval of a total of 12 contact hours for the registrant.

 

Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics
Education credit (equal to nursing CEU's outlined for each course) will be provided by the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services and The Kentucky Emergency Medical Services for Children Project.  A certificate will be provided to each attendee.  For questions related to EMT/paramedic credits, conctact Tom Taylor, Kentucky Board of EMS, at (850) 256-3565 or email tomd.taylor@kctcs.edu.

 

Other Allied Health Professionals
All other health care professionals for whom preapproval has not been achieved will be provided a certificate of attendance after the symposium.  Each of these professionals will be responsible for submission to thir professional beards if credit is desired.  CME and CEU for certificates for physicians, physician assitants, registered nurses, EMT/EMT=Ps and respiratory therapists will be awarded at teh end of each session.

Course Overview

The Kentucky Statewide Trauma/Emergency Symposium provides an exciting opportunity for health care professionals seeking innovative approaches to truma and emergency care.  The program will cover clinical management of the trauma patient, including pre-hospital care, resuscitatoion, acute care and rehabilitation.  Designed for the team approach, this multidisciplinary forum will feature national and local physicians, nurses, paramedics and other experts.
