In an effort to support the University of Kentucky’s drive to “Go Green”, the Pharmacy and Medicine Continuing Education Office is adapting some of its policies and procedures to meet a more environment-friendly set of standards. While these changes are being made to lessen our ecological footprint and help conserve natural resources, we are committed to providing the same high quality service as in the past.
The following are three initial changes that will affect the manner in which CE is delivered:
- Certificates will now be delivered primarily online through CECentral.com. Paper certificates will still be available but will carry with them a handling fee of $9.95, payable by check or credit card.
- A more robust Profile page on CECentral.com will allow participants to customize their communication notices and opt-in to receive e-mail notifications, rather than bulky brochures, of upcoming CME and CPE events sponsored by the University of Kentucky.
- Syllabi and handouts for live events will no longer be distributed as paper copies, but rather made available online ahead of time (to the best extent possible) so participants can download and follow along on their laptop.
This page will serve to inform those who rely on UK for Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Continuing Pharmacy Education (CPE) of changes as they take place and answer any questions related to them. Please check back regularly to learn more about our efforts, and use the feedback feature on this page to share your thoughts with how we’re doing.
FAQ
What if I do not have the means to go online to request my certificate?
You will be able to call our staff support between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm, Monday through Friday (excluding federal holidays and the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day), who will verify your participation in the appropriate CE event and mail a certificate to you. A handling fee of $9.95 will apply.
Why is there now a handling fee for certificates sent through the mail?
The inclusion of a handling fee is as much as an incentive to process credit requests online as it is to recognize the labor resources consumed by sending certificates through the mail.
Why are you no longer providing handouts of slide decks to participants at live events?
Each year, we use approximately 165,000 sheets of letter-size paper…at the twice-annual FMR event alone. That’s 330 reams of paper! With the ability to make (most) slide decks available online before the event and more and more participants utilizing laptops, this was perhaps the easiest decision we made.
